Brandon Maggen

Brandon completed his podiatric medicine training at the University of Johannesburg. He then set-up and managed Podiatry programs for six specialty hospitals including orthopeadic rehabilitation, leprosy, psychiatric and TB. Private clinical practice followed serving his community for over 20 years. In that time clinical areas of focus developed which led to further training and education in diabetes medicine, completing a MSc from the University of South Wales, UK and then a PhD in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
A member in good standing of the College of Chiropodists of Ontario and the Ontario Society of Chiropodists, he still holds membership of the South African Sports Medicine Association of South Africa and the Centre of Diabetes and Endocrinology.
He also served on the Executive of the Podiatry Association of South Africa for 18 years, serving in various roles, culminating in the Presidency for two terms. He was a founding member of an advanced wound care clinic which became the biggest and most research intensive of its kind in the province, influencing funders, hospitals and referees. As a result of this, he became an associate editor for Podiatry-content of the journal Wounds Southern Africa.
He has also presented and lectured consistently for over 25 years, on three continents in numerous cities.
In 2021 he was awarded a full Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in the Faculty of Podiatric Medicine.
Brandon has participated in many sporting events and has completed some really epic events, including numerous Comrades Marathons, Ultra-Marathons and marathons, half-marathons, IronMan events, other triathlons, cycling races etc. He has served on the medical team for the IronMan World Championships for a number of years.
